Thoughts on a joint but unequal Palestinian-Israeli struggle

Noa Shaindlinger, +972 - Since 2003, a growing number of Israeli activists, primarily affiliated with Anarchists Against the Wall, have been joining the Palestinian popular struggle against the separation wall and settlements. Israelis accompany Palestinians in weekly demonstrations throughout the West Bank in villages like Bi’lin, Nil’in, Nabi Saleh, Beit Ummar and al-Ma’asara.

Recently, I have become aware of an internal debate in the circles I am a part of and privy to in Ramallah, Nabi Saleh and in the virtual circles of Twitter, Facebook and the blogosphere. This debate has spilled into activist circles I frequent and aroused an array of responses, most of them quite emotional. Some people, Palestinian and others, have begun calling into question the participation of Israeli activists in Palestinian demonstrations against the wall and even challenge the efficacy of a joint Palestinian-Israeli struggle in general.

People for Palestine: Nadia Bilbassy

Palestine Note is proud to introduce our new video series, People for Palestine! We’ll be profiling authors, filmmakers, journalists, activists, academics and others dedicated to freedom for Palestinians from all over the world.

For our first episode, meet the Chief US Correspondent for MBC Middle East Television Nadia Bilbassy. Originally from Gaza, Nadia has spent almost twenty years covering issues of global importance from Palestine and the Arab world to South East Asia and Africa. Now based in Washington, DC, she covers the White House and the State Department for Arab audiences.

We met up with her at MBC’s offices to talk about her experiences as a journalist, her views on Palestinian journalism, and why women make better leaders. Check out the video above for the full story!

 

June Photo Exhibit: Old and New

 

It’s time for our monthly digital photo exhibit curating the works of young Palestinian boys and girls with Tomorrow’s Youth Organization‘s  Triple Exposure program!

Before we can appreciate the young and new that surrounds us, we must understand the old. Nablus has a rich history, filled with old buildings, landmarks and people – all who tell a unique story. But when you can capture the old and the young together, then you have something truly beautiful.
